Type 06A / 1248 Compass

Handheld bearing compass used by SAAF aircrew during maritime operations in World War II and immediate post-war when use of the fixed-type of observer’s compass was impractical.

Air Ministry instrument with AM stamp.

Has an internal bulb that allows for illumination through two batteries in metal handle, and an adjustable prism.

Dimensions of wooden case are 130mm x 140mm x 260mm high.

In working condition, with dedicated storage box (note – hinges on box are broken). There is no compass oil in this unit.
